According to the city, the fate of the contract is now in the hands of the Economic Development Board.

The City of Jämsä is considering terminating the lease of the Rasua camping site. Rasua Relax, the company that runs the campsite, has outstanding rent payments.

According to the agenda of the Living Environment Committee, the company has not complied with its payment obligation for the 2024 rent, as agreed in the lease agreement, despite payment reminders.

– The entrepreneur has submitted a response, which has been communicated to the members of the Economic Development Board. The matter will be discussed by the Board. An alternative to cancelling the lease could be, for example, to give the tenant a payment deadline,” says Mr Taipale.

The lease agreement between the city of Jämsä and Rasua Relax took effect in May 2023. Jämsä chose the company from among four applicants because it saw in the company’s business plan a desire to develop the area.

According to the register information, the company has had several payment delays, and it has not been in the advance collection register since last November.

– Due to personal problems, the company’s financial problems have piled up, but they were already solved last year. Increasing marketing still has the potential to increase profitability. A plan has been presented to the city to continue operations, says Rantanen.

According to Rantanen, during the winter Rasua has served mostly local residents. Karaoke and flea market activities have been organized in the area. In the summer, the activity is focused on tourists.

Land use engineer Teijo Taipale states that the city of Jämsä’s wish is to find an extension to the campsite, if the vitality board ends up terminating the lease agreement with the current entrepreneur.

– In my opinion, the wish of the residents of the nearby area and the municipalities is that the camping area will continue to be operated.

The Jämsä vitality board will discuss Rasua’s situation on Thursday, January 23.
