Finnish musician to release his next album on Onlyfans – Music Writers’ Association: ‘A pioneer’
Finnish musicians do not use the platform, known as an adult entertainment site, to sell their music. The Music Writers’ Association considers Juha Lagström’s launch to be a pioneering effort.
He is looking for a solution in a place where Finnish musicians have rarely turned to: onlyfans.
– I drove there somehow to see what this is all about.
For an independent artist operating without a record company, money is spent because the studio and musicians have to be hired. With live streaming, there’s not much money to be made, and the songs don’t get radio airplay.
– Making new music has to be financed by gigging. At the same time, you should finance your life: eat, pay bills and pay off loans, says Lagström, who became known as the singer of the Elonkerjuu band.
In Onlyfans, content producers mostly offer pictures, videos, one-on-one conversations or other services to their subscribers for a fee.
It is best known as an adult entertainment site, although you can offer almost any content there once you create a profile.
Lagström has discussed his idea with his family, among others. He has two adult daughters, whose comment spoke volumes.
– \”I guess you can’t go there now\” – and I completely understand that. The site has such a strong resonance as an adult entertainment site.
From an artist’s point of view, he considers Onlyfans the most artistically free of all platforms.
– My main focus is on music, music videos and whatever I come up with.
Music Authors’ Association considers it unique
– He is quite a pioneer in this. In five years, the news of who was the first to start using it may well be unearthed.
Toivonen thinks the idea is good – especially if the artist himself owns the record. The artists of the record company could face many questions, such as Teosto payments.
The wrapper used the platform at least for some time to do additional work. However, the new records have remained in the hands of the record company.
Onlyfans says that from the beginning it has been a channel for all kinds of content production, including music. International musicians use the platform to release new music, cover tour costs and share exclusive material with fans.
No royalties will be paid
At the copyright organization Teosto, we are aware that some music is distributed in the world through Onlyfans. In Finland, the matter has not come to the organization’s attention, and Teosto does not have a contract with Onlyfans. Therefore, no Teosto compensation is paid for the music played or shared there.
Juha Lagström’s idea is to add songs from the new album to Onlyfans before its release. One option is to get the whole album only from the Onlyfans account, even if the single releases still appear in streams.
Income would come depending on how many people would become subscribers. The artist can define the price himself. You can also define a profile for free and offer paid content for purchase separately.
– If you start asking for money, then you have to offer for it as well. If I release a song once every six months, for example, it has to be something that you can’t get anywhere else.
So far, he has two free songs available, in addition to which he is selling a new single that will be released there on Wednesday.
Although Lagström has created an account, he does not yet know how widely he intends to use it.
– When a site is known for adult entertainment, there is such a devilish little Lagström involved that if it is a site, it could be very good. Just like with the little middle finger.
