Los Angeles wildfires already affecting the Oscars – nomination list announcement postponed
The US Film Academy wants to pay tribute to the film community affected by the wildfires.
The hottest list in the film industry is still to come.
The US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which manages the Oscars, has been forced to delay the announcement of the Oscar nominations for the second time, as the deadline for voting on the nominees has been moved up.
The 2025 Oscar nominations are due to be announced on Thursday 23 January. They were originally due to be announced on 17 January.
The Academy has justified the postponement of the announcement with emotional reasons. The wildfires in Los Angeles have affected the lives of many Academy members, and some have already lost their homes in the fires.
According to the Academy’s estimate, the exceptional situation affects at least 6,000 Academy members who live in areas ravaged by wildfires, according to The Hollywood Reporter publication. At least four members of the board of the film academy have lost their homes. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has approximately 10,000 members.
The music industry’s Grammy gala is also scheduled to be held on February 2. You can find the candidates here. In the televised broadcast, money is collected for the victims of the wildfires and for reconstruction.
