Oulu attracts international tourists – especially Germans top the statistics

International tourism increased Oulu’s accommodation sales by 20 per cent last year.

The share of international tourists increased significantly in Oulu and the Oulu region last year.

This is according to Visit Oulu’s November 2024 tourism statistics.

In November, a total of nearly 62 000 overnight stays were recorded in Oulu. The number increased by 16% from the previous year.

76 percent more international tourists stayed in the city than last year. Most of them were Germans, whose number of overnight stays increased by 187 percent. The second largest group were Swedes, whose number increased by 27 percent.

In November, a total of 67,200 overnight stays were recorded in the Pohjola tire area, which covers the entire Oulu region’s tourist areas. That is six percent more than last year.

Of this, the share of overnight stays by international tourists was 10,300. Their number increased by 56 percent from the previous year. Germans also stayed the most in the Ring Road area, whose overnight stays increased by 119 percent.

In total, international tourism increased Oulu’s accommodation sales to 4.4 million euros. The increase is 20 percent.
