Thanks to the agreement, it is possible for department store chain Kärkkäinen to plan a logistics hall of up to 100,000 square meters in the business area, where at least 200 jobs will be created.
Kärkkäinen Oy’s logistics center is coming to the Pippo-Kujala business area in Lahti after all.
According to a press release from the city of Lahti, the parties have made an agreement, based on which the company is to be zoned for a plot of land in the Pippo-Kujala area, and the expansion of the business area in Lahti will continue.
Kärkkäinen Oy and the city of Lahti discussed placing a logistics center in the Pippo-Kujala area in December 2020, when the city surveyor of the city of Lahti promised Kärkkäinen Oy a plot of land in Kujala. The final scope of the plot and pre-construction were specified in discussions between the parties during 2021.
Since then, the city of Lahti decided to reserve the plot in question for Fazer Makeiset Oy in May 2022. This resulted in financial losses for Kärkkäinen Oy and a dispute arose between the parties.
Since the summer, the parties have held settlement negotiations to resolve the matter and have now reached a solution and made an agreement on the matter, the release states.
Hundreds of jobs from the logistics center
Thanks to the agreement, Kärkkäinen has the opportunity to design a logistics center serving the company nationwide in the business area of \u200b\u200bPippo-Kujala. The logistics center will be approximately 80,000–100,000 square meters in size and will employ at least 200 people.
Kärkkäinen will make an investment decision on construction when the site planning and pre-construction of the plot have been completed. The city undertakes to pre-build the plot before handing it over.
In addition, the Kärkkäinen department store in Lahti’s Renkomäki will be expanded. The company said in 2021 that it is planning an expansion, which will include warehouse space for the online store, among other things.
