The 150th anniversary is about to be celebrated. It is known that the first mention of the Tiernapoikka picture was in Oulu’s Wiikko-Sanom on January 11, 1873. In the photo, the winning team of Ynnin Tiernat in 2019.

Ten teams will participate this year, which the organizer thinks is a reasonable number. Some of the groups have broken up due to the lack of performance opportunities in the corona era.

The national Tiernapoika competition will be held in Oulu this coming Sunday, and after a long break, the teams will once again get to sing for the audience on Rotuaari’s stage.

However, it is estimated that the past corona restrictions have affected the teams’ desire to practice, this year’s number of participants has been reduced to ten teams.

The last time the national Tiernapoikakillipui was held in Oulu, open to the public, was in 2019. Due to the corona, the 2020 competition had to be canceled and last year it was held in a closed space without the public due to corona restrictions.

However, he says that the good quality of the performances has been preserved even after the corona period.

The event, which is open to the public, starts at Rotuaari square on Sunday, November 27 at 11:40 a.m.
