Metsähallitus Metsätalous Oy’s new regional director for Ostrobothnia–Kainuu, Kalle Eerikäinen, says Metsähallitus Metsätalous Oy’s biggest challenge is the fight against climate change. According to him, the fight against climate change must be included in strategic solutions and operational activities.
– Until now, we have taken good care of the forest resources comprehensively and coordinated operations, but we have a lot of external pressures and challenges.
By coordination, Eerikäinen means the development of the region’s forest resources for the needs of wood maintenance and the harmonization of forestry with environmental issues.
– Environmental aspects must also be taken into account in the overall security of tree care, and this will challenge us in the future as well.
At the moment, the public is talking a lot about the EU’s restoration requirements. Is that the most important thing to bring up?
– Restoration is one tool in our selection of methods and we must take it into account, but restoration must be carried out sensibly and effectively, Eerikäinen answers.
Kalle Eerikäinen will start at the beginning of next year as the Ostrobothnia–Kainuu regional director of Metsähallitus Metsätalous Oy.
