Kemi has put the Customs Warehouse up for sale, because the city has no need for it. The city has planned to preserve, sell or demolish its premises in 2018.
The city of Kemi has put the Customs Warehouse located in the inner harbor up for sale.
The building will be used by the Kemi City Theater until the end of the year.
– The City Theater has already terminated the lease in the summer, and the contract has a notice period of six months, Immonen says.
The administration of the theater has worked in the customs warehouse and, in addition, admission tickets have been sold and performances have been organized there.
The customs warehouse is sold through a newspaper advertisement and online
The city’s sale announcement was published in the local newspaper on Tuesday. Immonen says that the building has already been sold on the city’s website before.
– There have been quite a few inquiries, says Immonen.
Bids left at the customs warehouse must be received by 12 o’clock on December 9 at the latest.
The operation of the city theater is to be transferred to the Meri-Lappi Theater Association from the beginning of next year, and the association does not need the Customs Warehouse, because the theater is planned to continue in the so-called Bank building.
However, the premises of the Bank have not been renovated, and the association cannot afford to renovate them. The continuation of theater operations in Kemi is at stake if the city does not finance the renovation.
