A big congress and a spa hotel planned for the city’s parade ground are supposed to be brought to the city board’s consideration in December.
At the Rovaniemi City Council meeting in December, the plan is to present the long-planned Valionranta site plan change and land lease agreement. After that, the formula goes to the council, which makes the final decision.
– This has been carried forward in good spirit with the city. This has lasted a long time, e.g. due to the corona pandemic, states CEO of Lapland Hotels Ari Vuorentaus.
Lapland Hotels is planning a large congress hotel and spa as well as three apartment buildings for the area. The initial cost of the investment is more than 100 million euros and the construction will take several years.
– Planning takes time and more detailed work begins when the formula is legally binding, says Ari Vuorentau.
Over the years, there have been disagreements about the use of the area, which is located in the best location in Rovaniemi, because some of the townspeople would like the beach to be used for joint recreation.
