According to the head of library services, there have been no major financial losses from vandalism and littering, at least so far.
The Kuorevesi library in Jämsä has been vandalised and vandalised several times during the autumn, says the city of Jämsä.
There have been incidents of eating and littering in the library premises where they do not belong.
According to the city, the noisy gatherings of young people, especially in the lobby, have also disrupted both library services and the businesses and their customers operating in the same building.
According to Mäkinen, something similar happened at the self-service library in Kuorevesi also around the turn of the year during the school holidays.
– There have been no major financial losses, but this is unfortunate, especially the disturbance in the lobby and the general restlessness, says Mäkinen.
Together with the school, the library has sorted out the disturbances.
If the problems continue, the city of Jämsä is even considering shortening the opening hours of the self-service library.
– No entity wishes that opening hours will have to be reduced. Restlessness and vandalism should be calmed down by shared responsibility in some way, hopes Mäkinen.
The Kuorevesi and Länkipohja libraries have been independent libraries since 2019.
Although the opening hours of self-service libraries are extensive, according to the city of Jämsä, there have not been many disturbances in the past.
