Gabriel Kivivuori Sereno won a prestigious composition competition.

A record number of composers entered this year’s Uuno Klami competition for children and young people. Ten works were heard in the final.

The national competition, which takes place every five years, is aimed at composition enthusiasts and students aged 10-19. It aims to strengthen young composers’ ability to find their own voice.

The composition competition will feature compositions written by young people and their live performances by the Kymi Sinfonietta.

He described his first work for orchestra as a symphonic poem.

– The theme of death appears in the work, as in Octavio Paz’s poem. The composition is mainly atonal music, but there are also major keys. I want to show that death is a part of life. It comes to everyone at some point, and it can also be thought of as peace, as expressed by the major key, the youngster told Yle during rehearsals.

Record number of participants

– Ten very different works will be heard in the finale. There is romance, a bit of jazz, a baroque concert about remembrance, and quite modern, also visually strange visions that take place on stage, Almila describes.
