A total of €1.55 million will be cut from next year’s budgets for early childhood education, basic education and upper secondary schools.

The City of Lahti’s basic education, upper secondary schools and early childhood education will have to save more than one and a half million euros next year.

The City Council decided on this in the context of next year’s budget earlier this week.

It is difficult to cut back on the organisation of teaching or early childhood education, but Jämsén says that staff costs will have to be reduced in any case.

– There is no talk of a dismissal procedure, but it does mean examining the need and necessity of temporary assignments.

Achieving savings on a practical level is still unclear, but according to Jämsén, it requires a renewal of operating models.

– Everything has to be looked at, i.e. the organization of services as well as the use of premises and the euros to be paid for them. Everything as a whole, Jämsén states.

The city of Lahti’s deficit for next year’s financial period is 9.3 million euros in total.
